CPT Jonathan D. Harmeling

Capt. Harmeling graduated from the United States Military Academy and was commissioned as a Field Artillery Officer in May 2008. After completing the Field Artillery Basic Officer Leader Course, his first duty assignment was with the U.S. Army’s World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) at Fort Carson, CO where he served as a Soldier-athlete competing internationally in the sport of team handball on the U.S. Men’s National Team. Upon completion of this role, Capt. Harmeling took Command of the Army’s WCAP and served for 26 months before departing for the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course.

Upon completion of the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course at Fort Sill, OK, Capt. Harmeling served as an Operations Officer for 5-25 Field Artillery Regiment in 4th Brigade, 10th Mountain Division (Light) out of Fort Polk, LA. While serving in this position, Capt. Harmeling deployed to Afghanistan in 2013-2014.

Upon redeployment from Afghanistan, Capt. Harmeling completed the Army Acquisition Basic Course and the Army Intermediate Program Management Course at the U.S. Army’s Acquisition Center of Excellence in Huntsville, AL, and he was named an Honor Graduate in both courses. His first acquisition assignment was with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) at Fort Meade, MD from 2014-2016. He served as the Assistant Program Manager for the Global Command and Control System Joint and as the Project Lead for the Agile Client Framework.

Currently, Capt. Harmeling is serving as the Cyber Acquisition Officer with the Army Cyber Institute located at West Point, NY. Additionally, he is also an Adjunct Professor for the Department of Systems Engineering and teaches the Project Management course to senior cadets. Furthermore, Capt. Harmeling serves the Officer in Charge and Coach of the Army Men’s Team Handball competitive club.

Capt. Harmeling’s formal education includes earning a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Leadership from the United States Military Academy at West Point and earning a Master’s of Business Administration from Liberty University.

Capt. Harmeling’s awards and decorations include a Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Air Assault Badge.
